The 'L' Network.
The 'L' Network gets it's name from the fact that it has two important tuning elements (the series connected capacitor C1 and inductor L1 count as one). The L network matches well to systems around the 5Ω region, and is able to cope with varying load capacitance. It is an ideal choice for sputtering systems and can also drive some etching systems. The 'L' network can also be used for welding PVC and similar type plastics, where its ability to adapt to capacitance changes means tooling can be changed without reconfiguration. The main weakness of the L network is that the load resistance (or resistive part of a series impedance) must be below 50Ω, preferably below 30Ω. It also requires an excessively large load capacitor to match loads below 4Ω. |
