Remote Control of CPS equipment

Most CPS equipment is equipped with an analog remote control facility. This is connected via a 15 way D connector, and the pinout is common across nearly all models.

The 15 way socket D type connector on the rear panel allows remote control of the generator. The connector supplied is of the filtered type, It contains individual capacitive feed through filters, one per pin. It is recommended that this type of connector is always used.

Description Of Remote Connections / Functions.

  1. Aux feedback. This is operated by grounding pin 11 and applying a feedback voltage to pin 1. (0 to -5 volts) i.e. Plasma dark-space potential control. When using auxiliary feedback facility, if feedback voltage is not present then RF power will rise to maximum.

  2. Remote power set. This is enabled by grounding pin 12 to pin 7 or 8, and applying a setpoint voltage of 0-5 volts to pin 2. 0 volts is zero output power and 5 volts is maximum output power.

  3. Forward power. Pin 3 is an analogue output voltage 0-5 volts representing zero to maximum output power. This output can source 5mA.

  4. Reflected power. Pin 4 is analogue output voltage 0-5 volts representing 0-maximum output power. This output can source 5mA.

  5. Remote RF ON. This function is enabled when pin 10 is grounded. Grounding pin 5 will switch RF On, and removing this ground will switch RF Off. Interlock functions will operate normally when using this function.

  6. Not Used

  7. Ground

  8. Ground

  9. RF Off Indicator. Pin 9 is an open collector transistor that grounds with RF Off. This can sink 45mA 20V.

  10. Enable Remote RF ON. Grounding this pin enables remote RF On/Off control via pin 5. When it is enabled the remote indicator on the front panel is illuminated.

  11. Enable AUX Feedback. Grounding this pin enables remote feedback via pin 1. When it is enabled the remote indicator on the front panel is illuminated.

  12. Enable Remote setpoint. Grounding this pin enables remote setpoint control via pin 2. When it is enabled the remote indicator on the front panel is illuminated.

  13. External Interlock. This pin must be grounded before the generator output may be switched on.

  14. RF On Indicator. Pin 9 is a open collector transistor that grounds with RF On. This can sink 45mA 20V.

  15. +5V. This is a +5V 500mA Output, usefull for lighting LEDs or powering simple adapters.
