Sensor tools

All sensor tools consist of rings of transducers. Individual elements are spaced equally around the pipe. The transducers themselves are mounted in modules, which can be easily transferred between tools for different pipe diameters. An inflatable collar is used to press the transducers into contact with the pipe. Note that no coupling fluid is necessary in the frequency range used.
The number of modules per tool depends on the pipe size to be tested:

Pipe diameter

  Pipe diameter

2 12   24 60
3 16   26 64
4 20   28 68
6 24   30 72
8 28   32 76
10 32   34 80

18 48   42 96
20 52   44 100
22 56   46 104

All transducer rings may be divided into four quadrants as far as electrical connections are concerned, i.e. a separate signal may be collected from each quadrant of each ring, giving a maximum of 12 channels on reception.

Transducers

Piezoelectric, non-resonant, using shear mode oscillation

Transducer Mounting Mechanisms

All transducers are mounted in carriers (Modules). The modules are available in either longitudinal, or Torsional configuration. Transducer spacing for 30mm or 45mm operation in available depending on the frequency range selected.
